Part V: “Everybody wants to rule the world”
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 3:53PM “Nothing ever lasts forever… Everybody wants to rule the world.”
This is the final part of a five part series examining what has transpired publically over the past few months and recent weeks as it relates to the Franklin-Oak Creek joint development project along the so-called South 27th Street Corridor, known “affectionately” by many residents of both communities, and local bloggers, as the “Boomgaard Fiasco.”
For me, the “Boomgaard Fiasco” clearly illustrated just how out of touch both communities’ Common Councils were and still may be, with “The People.”
As I researched and read the material I’ve included in the five posts in this essay, a pattern seemed to develop and appeared to me as though there was a coordinated, talking points campaign between the “main players,” when it came to Ted Grintjes’ “legacy,” his “resignation,” the candidate to replace him, the job requirements, and time elements for both the job and the project.
Was this simple coincidence or a co-coordinated effort to replace Ted Grintjes with the “right” candidate? As I have said since part I, you’ll have to decide for yourself.
In the meantime take off your pointed, tin foil caps, stop hiding from the “black helicopters” hovering in your nationhood, and remember; Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
And for the record, I DO NOT believe in anything on this list…

Please take the time to read Janet Evans’ August 13,2008 post entitled “Franklin Economic Development Commission Meeting 8/13/08,”including the comments section, before reading any further.
Coincidences or coordinated effort?
Ted Grintjes
The following praise for former 27SSC co-chair, Ted Grintjes, may very well be deserved, and what the individuals making these comments truly believe, but as one individual said “I don’t know him that well, but I know of him.”
The same holds true for me. I was introduced to Grintjes by Alderman Steve Olson, and that’s the extent of my personal contact him.
May 10, 2008
… Franklin owes a lot of gratitude to him…
… this man is a volunteer…
… giving countless hours of his time and expertise…
… Franklin would be hard-pressed to find a replacement…
…his institutional knowledge…
… volunteer time for that matter…
August 1, 2008
… “I don’t know him that well, but I know of him.”…
… “So now what do we do?...
… Who do we find to replace Grintjes?...
…Franklin’s most civic-minded citizen…
… resigning from all of the bodies…
… step forward to take his place?...
…long history of devotion to this community…
… does that erase 10, 20, 30 years of good service on Grintjes’ part?
… neither matches what Grintjes brought to the table. No one does…
… Now he’s gone, from everything…
August 6, 2008
… no way the community can properly say thank you…
… pointed out that Grintjes’ efforts were voluntary…
… God only knows how many hours he’s put in for Franklin over the years…
August 11, 2008
… the time and skill…
… do it with authority (of knowledge), skill…
August 12, 2008
… know of anyone who has the business experience and financial savvy necessary…
… who also has the time to give freely…
… chairing the 27thssc is a full-time job…
…most people have neither the ways nor the means to do it for free…
… I urge anyone who has these qualifications to contact the mayor…

The Project
May 5. 2008
… it might be too late for that…
… set back…
August 1, 2008
… neither matches what Grintjes brought to the table. No one does…
… Olson at least has experience on this project as does Rhiner…
August 8, 2008
… train has left the station…
… Playing catch-up will be very, very difficult…
August 13, 2008
… the train had left the station a while ago…
Ted Grintjes’ Replacement
I get the impression that even Underdog couldn’t replace Ted Grintjes!
Thank God everyone seems to agree on this.
August 1, 2008
… neither matches what Grintjes brought to the table. No one does. …
… Olson at least has experience on this project as does Rhiner…
… Who does Mayor Taylor select? Alderman Skowronski? I’m not sure how extensive his involvement in and/or support for this project has been.”…
August 6, 2008
Taylor has asked EDC chairman, Alderman Kenneth Skowronski, to replace Grintjes on the Steering Committee on an interim basis.
August 13, 2008
how much time the new replacement would need to put into the job…
someone who is in a position to be able to arrange their schedule...
person would be putting in many hours in this position…
The Resignation
August 1, 2008
… Grintjes did the honorable thing by resigning…
… All three positions he resigned from are voluntary…
remove any possibility of a conflict of interest…
August 6, 2008
… to avoid future conflict-of-interest entanglements…
… resigned from development-oriented city posts he held in Franklin…
… “I didn’t want there to be any question of ethical conflicts” …
I’ll end this series with this quote and this vintage 1980’s video (note the price of gas):
“Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.”
Thanks for reading BULLSEYE.

Somehow I can see Ted sitting at his laptop screaming "I'm Mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it any more".
