Monday, February 8, 2010 at 9:25AM While most American voters have had enough of President Obama, it’s clear in this first video that the Commander–in-Chief is consumed in a slobbering love affair with himself.
(Skip to 8:25 in video 1) In a recent speech at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Washington, Obama paid respects to an uninsured “woman in St. Louis” who passed away from breast cancer. According to the president the woman, whose name apparently escaped the president, decided she wanted to be buried in an Obama shirt.
Predictably, the speech has been met with outrage from critics and political correspondents who say the incident seems to confirm suspicions that the president is more than a bit infatuated with himself.
The mistake came on the heels of another recent Obama gaffe (video 2) when the Obama repeatedly confused a corpsman with a ‘corpse man’ at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Monday, February 8, 2010 at 7:42AM After reading various posts in the Franklin blogosphere concerning the city’s (mostly taxpayer) funding for the 2010 Civic Celebration (July 2-4, 2010), I’ve come to the conclusion that the members of the Franklin Common Council are 1) SLOW LEARNERS and 2) HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE OF FISCAL DISCIPLINE.
In a letter to Mayor Taylor and Franklin Finance Committee members dated July 23, 2009, Franklin Treasurer & Director of Finance, Calvin A. Patterson, warned on background that:
The Budget Forecast indicated general fund balance shortfalls of $2.1 million in 2009 (emphasis added) and $1.4 million in 2010. The projected deficit in 2010 must be eliminated in the development of the Mayor’s recommended and significant reduction to the 2009 projected deficit is highly desirable.
According to a post by Franklin blogger and District 1 Aldermanic candidate Greg Kowalski, the Civic Celebrations Commission presented the Common Council with a budget request of $74,400 for the 2010, three-day event. By eliminating promotional T-shirts ($1742), Flags ($1681), Children’s Games ($3006), and other reductions, the Commission projected a $4497 reduction in 2010 expenses versus 2009. The math is still a little fuzzy to me when one considers that the 2009 budget contained zero expenses for Police and DPW services and a category titled MISC. The 2010 budget contained total expenses of $15,500 for these three line items in 2010. And let’s be realistic, the $12,500 “charge” by the City for Police and DPW expenses, is simply “robbing Peter to pay Paul.”
Also, the Commission projects “revenues” for this year’s event will be $4905 less than in 2009. Only government could run an “enterprise” that “reduces expenses” by $4497, which results in a $4905 reduction in “revenue.”
Absolute Lack Of Fiscal Discipline
On February 3, Greg Kowalski opened a blog post entitled American flags back at Franklin Fest, with this:
In what Common Council President Steve Taylor called a "rally round the flag", the Common Council approved a budget for the Civic Celebrations Commission that included $2000 for the purchase of American flags for distribution at the 4th of July Parade. The council save could be deemed temporary, however, with CCP Taylor indicating that next year deeper cuts could be on the table for Franklin Fest.
For those keeping score, according to Greg Kowalski’s post, Common Council President Steve Taylor called a "rally round the flag," and poof, $2000 isadded to Civic Celebration budget for American flags which—by the way—cost Franklin $319 less ($1681) in 2009.
The post continued:
The budget for the Civic Celebration (Franklin Fest) is now at $76,400. This budget still removes several components of the festival, including the childrens [sic] area and bleachers for residents to sit and watch the parade without the need of bringing their own chairs. As for next year, it remains to be seen. Due to costs of police and DPW being inserted into the budget for Franklin Fest, it is having a huge impact on festivities. This impact is leaving some aldermen, especially CCP Taylor, who is the aldermanic rep for the Civic Celebrations Commission, to openly state that Franklin Fest could have "less family fun and more booze". Common Council President Steve Taylor and the Franklin Common Council would do well to heed the very wise words of one of Greg Kowalski’s readers who commented the ”4th of July needs flags like Christmas needs presents.”

To Quote Forrest Gump: “Stupid is as stupid does." According to Rasmussen Reports, Sixty-one percent (61%) of U.S. voters say Congress should drop health care reform and focus on more immediate ways to improve the economy and create jobs. The same report noted that seventy percent (70%) of voters nationwide say the health care issue was important in the special Senate election in Massachusetts. That number includes 49% who say it was very important. Only 15% think the health care issue was not very or not at all important in the Tuesday election.
The White House has recruited David Plouffe to take on an expanded role as an outside adviser just days after Massachusetts Senator-elect Scott Brown's election.
Plouffe will also exercise considerable influence over Organizing For America (OFA)—the grassroots political arm—previously discussed on BATTLE JOINED—at the Democrat National Committee (DNC). Plouffe is considered to be among the closest advisers to Obama during the 2008 campaign and his voice will carry great weight in any deliberations on politics, strategy and tactics.

Mary Lazich and her partner, Kevin Fischer, an award-winning veteran broadcaster who has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for nearly three decades, recently invited BATTLE JOINED cameras to video tape one of their dress rehearsals at the Pettit Center in West Allis.As many readers may already know, Fischer, is a legislative aide to state Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), and can be seen offering his views on the news on the hard-hitting, no holds bared, public affairs program "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and can also be heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 9:02AM Yesterday during his town hall meeting in Nashua, NH, President Obama had no qualms about telling Americans where and how they should spend their money:
"When times are tough, you tighten your belts, adding you don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices."
Obama’s remarks prompted this response from Sin City Mayor Oscar Goodman during a hastily called news conference that “Obama is no friend to Las Vegas and would not be welcomed here if he visits. "I'll do everything I can to give him the boot," Goodman said. "This president is a real slow learner."
Goodman was referring to comments made by the president a year ago when Obama commented during a town hall meeting in Elkhart, IN, that corporations shouldn't use federal bailout money for trips to Las Vegas, the Super Bowl or corporate jets. Tourism and casino officials said the comment hurt the city as companies canceled meetings in Las Vegas and rescheduled them elsewhere.
Oddly enough the Obama Administration is prepared to ignore the law our change it to enslave America’s future generations with massive, unsustainable debt.
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) appeared on FNC’s On The Record and explained why Obama's budget plan is fiscally irresponsible and what should be done.

According to the local FOX News affiliate in Tampa, thousands showed up to support the president yesterday in Tampa to unveil his plan for a series of high-speed rail projects in Florida and around the country, but just a couple of blocks away hundreds came together to protest his arrival.
The protest was part of the Tea Party movement. Protesters demanded less government and a different kind of healthcare reform and hoped to derail the state's high-speed train. Tampa protesters believe spending billions on rail has no place in a state facing budget cuts. More.

According to its website, “members of the National Education Association (NEA) are the voice of education professionals. Our work is fundamental to the nation, and we accept the profound trust placed in us.”
The NEA Vision, Mission, and Values Statement also includes the following statement:
"We believe public education is the cornerstone of our republic (emphasis added) education provides individuals with the skills to be involved, informed, and engaged in our representative democracy."
I agree wholeheartedly with that statement and the importance of education was not lost on our founders:

I would imagine that depends upon who is educationg the People. The website Union Facts acknowledges that here is no disputing that America’s teachers unions -- in particular, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers -- are the most organized and powerful voices in education politics. There are groups of people that care more deeply about public schools (parents, most notably) but they lack the coordination and vast resources that teachers unions have at their disposal.
Below is a 13:40 video produced by this group entitled: The Truth About Teachers Unions in which teachers, in their own words, explain how unions negatively affect education.
Maybe some of what of these teachers are describing can be attributed to the fact that two books written by Extreme Leftwing Radical and community organizer Saul Alinsky—appear as recommended reading on the NEA website. Oddly enough, The 500 Year Leap, Freedom 101 didn’t make the NEA list.
